A Passion for Photography

Category: Photography, Web, Writingrob @ 6:40 pm

I’d like to introduce you to :

http://www.dwaynetucker.com/blog/

It is the blog of Dwayne DC Tucker II who is very passionate about advertising, design and photography.

Its a simple blog - Dwayne updates it with a nice combination of personal chat and useful photography tips. Dwayne comes to problems in photography with a point of view that includes elements of practicality, design and photography.

In this blog Dwayne does something that particularly interests me - he blends the technicalities of capturing or enhancing an image with the emotional side of photography. Photography is art, it is meant to affect feelings. Sometimes this gets lost in talk about camera’s, lighting arrangements, and camera settings. Its nice to see it getting a mention here.

I’d recommend this blog, as something to dip into regularly (or better still subscribe to). It is able to make you think about your own work, and that really is the key to creative photography. Think about your work and then incorporate some good lessons or good ideas into your pictures.

This will improve your photography and this blog will help you do this. It is a good source of inspiration and information.

The Cabarazzi

Category: Photography, Webrob @ 5:38 pm

Often when I mention projects it sounds as if something has been heavily planned. Maybe a little over thought and a little too aware of itself.

This really does not have to be the case.

Last week The Cabarazzi hit the news with an exhibition of photographs hosted in North London. The pictures which are really quite stunning were all taken with a simple point and shoot camera from a London Cab. It sounds like a cool idea. Yet it started when Cabbie Dominic Shannon started carrying a (disposable) camera as a precautionary measure to collect insurance evidence in case of an accident. He realised how good London looks and started to take photographs. The disposable camera became digital and the pictures are now on display.

If you’d like to view Mr Shannons photographs click here.

This is a case of one idea getting caught up in enthusiasm and turning into something special.

It proves that all you need is an idea, some patience and not very expensive equipment to produce good art. To me the message is - just get on with things and see what happens.

The Eggy Result

Category: Art, Collaborative Links, Flickr, Photography, Web, YouTube, videorob @ 10:48 pm

10 days ago I announced the Eggy Challenge, and now it is time to announce the results, but first a few discoveries I made along the way.

Last year we focused on amateur videos from You Tube. This year there were videos, but I had a look around You Tube and one year on it is dominated by commercial adverts. They look cool , but it is a sign of a times that viral marketing by the man is getting more prevalent on You Tube. Of course one search isn’t a trend - and everyone does love Cadbury Creme egg adverts but I hope the massive results of commercial work don’t make it harder for small producers to find their niches.

Here though are the video results. Despite what I’ve just said all from You Tube. I’ll just post the links here, and let you have surprise when you see what’s behind.

Now it is time for photographs. No photos were send to me so I visited my favourite stomping ground for pictures - Flickr. What I found here were plenty of very documentary and representational pictures of Cadbury’s Creme eggs, and things didn’t get more interesting until I widened the search somewhat. It would seem that photographers don’t get quite so creative with the Great British pastime of creme egg abuse.

So here are the pictures. Again - I’ve avoided description so you’ll have to click to find out more

Photos from the PreFilm

Category: Film, Flickr, News and Announcements, Photographyrob @ 10:07 pm

Throughout the filming of the pre-film photos have been taken. We’ve wanted to record the Consumed team in action. The first of these pictures went onto Flickr a few months ago. The latest batch of filming above Brecon has just been added. More are coming in the future.

For now to see the current set take a look at

http://www.flickr.com/photos/grandetour/sets/72157600301203134/

The pictures were taken as the day built up. None are scenes from the film. instead they are cast and crew getting ready and into character for filming. Its something we needed to capture. Everyone who has worked on the film has been fantastic and getting things done and looking good. It made sense to capture that.

Interested in film? You might want to look at our SLR cameras which are great for some good snaps.

Robart - New Image and The Process

Category: Art, News and Announcements, Photographyrob @ 10:18 am

I’ve unleashed another image onto my Robart Arts Project website. Click here to take a look

Instead of trying to explain the piece I’ve written about my process of finding an image in an image. The reason for this was to talk about why there is often a long gap between decent pictures instead of just apologizing for a lack of work. I’d like to release more images. This isn’t always possible for a number of reasons. One of them is that my method of arriving at an end result sometimes leaves me a little short of ideas. So I decided to expound a little on how I create my pieces. The hope is that it is helpful or interesting to someone.

If you need a place to host your image, look at getting a digital photo frame.

Giving out a Camera

Though not strictly an artistic project a single act of philantrophy has yielded something very interesting. The act itself is something that should perhaps happen more often.

What am I talking about… Click here to find out
