FreshTies

its amazing what can happen under your nose. I recently was on the receiving end of that sensation, though commitments have slowed down my response on Shared Creation to it.

It concerns Freshties.com. A website with good intentions that happens to be based very locally to me. What came as a shock is that is has been running for nearly a year.

So what is Freshties?

Its a non for profit social enterprise that simply puts people with skills and services in touch with the people who need them. Its a social network for both business, charities and individuals. Its all about putting the power of people where it is needed.

Well this is all well and good but why is a charity project getting space on website dedicated to brining out the creative in people? Why isn’t this space given over to say a fan film in need of help?

The answer is simple. If you can cut film, make websites, write column inches, paint pictures, take photographs and express yourself in anyway then Freshties can help you get in touch with people who you could help. As a valid outlet for your skills it (from a purely mercenary point of view) a means of extending your portfolio. In other words - you help and you get help.\

So is there a downside? Well there is a small membership fee. Unusual for a social network - but remember this is to administer a non profit organisation and the Fresh Ties website is not littered with the numerous ads that plague all other social networking sites. For giving us that grace we can forgive them that.

The Nick Kyme Blog

Category: News and Announcementsrob @ 5:21 pm

It’s not often I suggest you take a look at the blog of an established author but I felt that online presence of UK writer Nick Kyme was worth mentioning. Nick works in the field of writing books set in the universe of popular games. Not the most respected of writing genres but that is not at all relevant here.

It is his blog that I want you to take a look at. There is an immediacy, and clarity that make it an easy read. His subject matter ranges from updates on his latest work, reviews from a personal point of view that include snippets of his life and some very good writing advice. The overall effect is to give you an insight into not just how to write but what is like to be writing in a commercial environment. I think its this that makes it something special and worthy of a look. For an aspiring writer its a look at the lifestyle and thought processes you’ll be involved in.

This is great training material for new writers and an interesting blogging project for anyone interested in writing books.

And I like his film reviews too.
