The Indywood Project and Zombie Walk

Category: Call for Help, Events, Film, News and Announcementsrob @ 10:11 pm

Cranking up steam to produce a horror film in Cardiff is the well supported project “Indywood”. I sometimes think of this as a mysterious project (you’ll see why in a sec).

The aim of Indywood is to produce a horror film and is the resulting spin off from the Million Dollar Movie Project that in the last year has picked up some media attention.

So why mysterious - well although the intentions are publicised little is known of the film yet. The blogs have been talking about a world record zombie walk attempt and also the Miss Indywood project. The team of Tony and Cargi have produced some great looking media but not much info on the film yet.

Not that I can talk that much - the Consumed projects script is also under wraps; I think independent film makers need to keep things quiet and then unveil later.

Although quiet does not describe the next action of the Indywood team. They are organising an attempt at the world zombie walk record. In order to beat the existing record they need more than 894 of the undead wandering around. The attempt will take place in Cardiff on the 21st of November this year. If you can help please get in touch with them.

Films are great, but sometimes you just want a digital photo frame.

Photos from the PreFilm

Category: Film, Flickr, News and Announcements, Photographyrob @ 10:07 pm

Throughout the filming of the pre-film photos have been taken. We’ve wanted to record the Consumed team in action. The first of these pictures went onto Flickr a few months ago. The latest batch of filming above Brecon has just been added. More are coming in the future.

For now to see the current set take a look at

The pictures were taken as the day built up. None are scenes from the film. instead they are cast and crew getting ready and into character for filming. Its something we needed to capture. Everyone who has worked on the film has been fantastic and getting things done and looking good. It made sense to capture that.

Interested in film? You might want to look at our SLR cameras which are great for some good snaps.

The FInal Day of the First Part

Category: Film, News and Announcements, Reportsrob @ 10:03 pm

On Saturday the 13th of October a team of film-makers and would be movie makers met up in the Murco Diner at Sennybridge in the Brecon Beacons. Their objective was to shoot the action sequence from the Consumed Pre-Film.

The day didn’t start too well. I was producing and due to a closed road, some bad navigation and problems getting out in the morning I was the last to arrive. Not a great start, fortunately everyone was already meeting up (for the first time in many cases) and helping themselves to tea and coffee.

I arrived knowing that we had a problem to solve before hitting location. An early phone call had reminded me that I’d forgotten to tell the police that we were shooting. An essential job to do — especially when you consider that the shoot featured well armed paramilitary characters and that in reality the mountains around Brecon are the stomping ground of the British army. Fortunately we had the Dyfed Powys Police phone number and I made the call. The police were obliging - took the salient information from us and handed out an issue number should anyone report us in. We were good to go. We were not going to get shot.

So we had a great big convoy heading up the hills. After parking up we inspected the costumes and props we had, decided what to take and hiked. It wasn’t a particularly long walk or even a hard one but with a combination of cameras, makeup, tripods, steadicams (home made), food, and duffle bags full of guns we felt that reducing the number of trips back and fore was a good thing. In the end it turned out that more than one trip was needed.

The location at Cwmgwdi was beautiful. A hillside covered in Silver Birch trees all covered in russet and gold autumnal leaves and the ground slightly damp and spongey from earlier drizzle and mist. It was a magical place and what happened next felt fairly magical. Everyone knew what to do, set pieces were worked out , the sequence of shooting was worked out, makeup and effects were sorted out whilst the cast changed, relaxed got used to their guns and got themselves into character. I don’t think it could have been sooner. For myself and the lead cameraman it was our first time shooting action. Fortunately we had help from our friends - who knew exactly what they were doing.

Everyone chipped in as one. Sequences got shoot, and friendships were forged. Amazingly we were finished with time to spare. The finished film will be out in due course. A primary editing computer is being built for that job. In the meantime I’ll be posting photographs of the team in action to Flickr and then a video blog to Youtube.

You will have noticed that I haven’t mentioned any names here. That I feel something that should go on the film and blog. For this account I wanted to write something out of gratitude for help that accounted how feel good a successful shoot could feel.

If you’ve ever any doubt whether or not you could shoot film then remember this - whatever the finished film is like - you’ll never forget the time you had shooting it.

As an end - a big thank you to everyone out on that day - I’ll be recounted time and again in the blogs and film. In the meantime - thanks!

We have now finished filming the Consumed Pre-Film. Next comes Consumed itself!

The Time Capsule

Category: Call for Help, News and Announcements, Web, Writingrob @ 9:29 pm

Earlier today I was invited to take part in Age Concerns Time Capsule Project. The work was all in aid of the United Nations International Day of Older People. The plan was for a meeting of old and new minds. My job was to assist people in making entries to the Time Capsule.

And it is The Time Capsule Project I want to talk to you about.

Put simply like its buried in the ground equivalent, the Time Capsule website seeks to collect things that represent every day life. It is a collection of pictures of stories that cover the social history of British folk from the 1800’s through to the present day. It’s contributors are the very old, the very young or just those who are interested in or have collected some fascinating snippet from somebodies life. Some of the entries seem trivial - yet remind of us how much and how fast life changes and some capture moments of such emotional intensity that they are truly moving.

If you’ve an interest in the British it is an interesting read.

If you have a memory then please share it. The archives need your thoughts.

Keep track of the time with some of the greatest watches around.
