I’d like to introduce you to Planet Rock. Its billed as the UKs only pure digital music magazine. My instincts tell me that there may be someone out there ready to debate that - if it were all about writing via the Internet. Its not quite that simple. Planet Rock is a magazine. Its medium is digital not paper. It is not a blog. It is a downloadable magazine. An e-magazine if you like. Ideal for those you who like portable devices to store reading materials on.
It’s also a magazine backed by a digital radio station - also called conveniently - Planet Rock.
Here are some links to help to learn about this venture in publication:

The nice thing about e-Magazine is the low price (in this £1). Much cheaper than a paper equivalent and if created and used well perhaps more eco-friendly. It’s also a medium that can be searched and indexed. Useful indeed.
There are a lot good things about this idea. Let us hope it works out.

Its time to give a quick mention to this years New Media Expo. This years event is scheduled to start on August 14 and run until August 16. The location is Las Vegas Convention Centre. So a little hard to reach if you are outside of the States, worth a mention though as it is an event that brings together a good many of the big names in Podcasting, Video Blogging and Blogging together.
Of course if you cannot reach it then keep an eye on the new media itself. You can bet that there will be many many blog entries - many made live at the event that will help those who cannot go get a feel of it.
That’s the nice thing about new media - it can be incred
ibly fast to report something, with as many different flavours as there are producers.
If you’d like more information the Expo can be found at:

Recently I had a need for some free stock music. It wasn’t long before I was exploring Jamendo.com. Its a music download site, that specializes in licensing music under the terms set out by the Creative Commons licenses.
If you’re not aware of the Creative Commons let me explain and point you at their web site. Simply put the Creative Commons offers very simple license terns for the free sharing of creative materials. Its a boon for any one needing to source material and not have to worry about the cost but with a need to give credit where due. The concept behind Creative Commons is very useful.
Back to Jamendo. It is a wonderful set of music, that is easy to use, easy to download from - wonderful for aspiring film-makers.
Check out Jamendo - it’s useful.
It doesn’t scan quite as well as the classic “There’s a welcome in the valleys”, but it is true.
Tomorrow is a new term which means more free classes - so here are two that have come onto Shared Creations radar.
The first I want to mention is at the newly restored Llanhilleth Institute (aka Llanhilleth Miners Institute). I was lucky enough to be asked to participate in the launch of the Institute following its recent restoration last December and say that this is a great facility. Its been lovingly brought back to life and has been turned into one of the best centres for education, the arts and the community that I have recently seen. You can learn more about the Institute at http://www.llanhillethinstitute.com
The Digital Photography classes are scheduled for Thursday evenings; for more details call 01495 354675.
Our next class is not at a brand new centre, but an excellent one none the less. It is the WEA’s Churchview centre in Blaenavon. Classes here are on Wednesday afternoons . For more details call the WEA on 01495 791128.
Both classes are offering accreditation with the OCN, which means - complete these for free and you are on your way to getting an NVQ.

We last mentioned Picnik quite some time again - back then it was considered to be a useful online tool with potential. Since then the development team over at Picnik have continued to improve their tool.
Now though a deal between Flickr and Picnik has been done that enables you to edit photos directly from your Flickr account. This is a great example of how web sites can converge their services to collaborate into bringing us a better service.
Things are definitely getting more interesting on the tools front
