Celtx Version 1

Category: Equipment, Fan Productions, Film, Internet, NewsRob @ 9:01 am

A quick mention of something that almost got away

Celtx media pre-production system recently hit version 1 and is available for download. I started playing with Celtx some time ago and still think it is a good solution to the problem of filing and sharing all of the production details for things such as films, plays, LARP, books, comics, video casts.

It is also free.

If you’re looking for something to really help organise everything for a production take a look at Celtx at http://www.celtx.com/

Monkeys With Car Keys

Category: Call for Help, Equipment, NewsRob @ 3:54 pm

Is an Open exhibition for new and emerging artists held at the Bargate Monument Gallery in Southhampton. The organisers are "a space arts".

The exhibition is about how far art has evolved in response to everyday culture and what happens when address the outlook of our current society. That’s a fairly lofty aspiration but it really means this - have we moved far enough from our ape brethren to be really proud of what we have achieved or not?

As you might be starting to guess this is an exhibition with attitude - you’ll certainly get this when you look at the web site for a space arts.

The good news for Shared Creation readers is that arts of all disciplines will be considered.

The submission deadline is 25th January 2008 with a panel review on 4th February 2008.

The actual exhibition will show between 19th March 2008 and 27th April 2008

Portfolio Day

Category: Equipment, NewsRob @ 12:29 pm

Ffotogallery will be holding free portfolio sessions on Saturday 24th November where current members and course students can receive feedback on their work and advice about professional development. The sessions will be hosted by the Wales based photographer Richard Page in the Chapter Arts Centre library space.

Obviously this is only open to a limited number of people and so not relevant to the majority of Shared Creation readers.

However it’s worth highlighting to remind members of what is available to them but to also let the idea out. I know this idea of getting a professional to mentor and advise isn’t new, but this kind of session makes so so much sense. Get advice and network with people with a joined interest. If you’re in a position to create these - please do so. If you already do so - then let Shared Creation know and we’ll highlight the good work.

ScribeFire

Category: Equipment, Reviews, Technology, Web SitesRob @ 10:02 am

it is perhaps not often enough that tools for writers get mentioned here. Mainly I think because for a long time a handful of products have dominated the tools used by authors. The rise of blogging, online and open source tools is changing that dynamic though so that in the future writing tools will have to be addressed more closely.

The first of these that I really need to bring your attention to is ScribeFire. Perhaps one of the very best tools for collating notes and publishing text to blog that I have seen. It is free. It works as an add-on for Firefox and provides a very fast to access full featured editor, multiple blog manager, tag manager, note manager and FTP tool all bundled together. I discovered it by accident but it has fast become a favourite of mine. So if you use Firefox and you need assistance publishing to blogs or even just taking notes as you work - go and look at Scribe Fire.
