Not tested this yet but Open Office 3 is out (at least in RC4 form). You can take a look at the details here: http://www.office-soft.net/uk/
This looks like a serious update. I’ll try to cover it more in the future.
Why the interest?
Well authors need good word processors and Open Office has always been very competent. On top of which anyone running a large creative project at some point needs office software. Well here it is - and it costs nothing to use.
Open Office is worth being aware of.

Way back in the early days of Shared Creation I tracked the development of Adobe Lightroom, bought it as soon as it was out and became a great fan.
Now Light Room 2 is out. I’ve not played with the product myself yet - that’s not due to any lack of enthusiasm - just a reflection on a maturing in my Photo software use. My library of images is now so large I don’t want to mess around with pre-launch betas for safeties sake.
Anyway all this is just a diversion. I’ve been looking at the specs on Lightroom 2 and its new features look like a major enhancement to Lightrooms ability to organise and enhance photos. It looks like an essential purchase or upgrade from where I am sitting.
So if you like Lightroom or are thinking about some high quality photograph workflow software take a look at Lightroom 2. I have a feeling you won’t be disappointed. For more details click here for the Adobe site.

Flickr - that favourite amongst photo-sharers has now launched its video sharing service. Allowing its users to show photography and video work side by side. In fact the video service contains a huge number of useful features that include tagging, geotagging and playing from thumbnail as well as from the full size player. Like YouTube Flickr also includes an API for embedding and using videos on other web sites.
With Flickr joining in with Video sharing the competition for the best places to show off and run your videos from is heating up. If you’re a video producer your options have certianly increased. Got to say I like the aspect of showing video and photos together using one clean and simple service
We’ve mentioned a few online photograph editing systems in the past but none with so venerable a name as this. Adobe has launched its much anticipated online version of Photoshop. I haven’t had a chance to study it in depth yet so - take this as an announcement. No doubt I’ll take a longer look in the near future.
