I’ve just been told about Shelfari. I’ve not really tried it out - but I do like the idea so here it is
Shelfari is a place to share opinions about books. - You show off what you like, and don’t like - so do others.
It sounds like a social networking bookclub to me.
So if you are into reading or writing it might be of interest.

The third annual British Journal of Photography (BJP) is open for entries. Any photographer with a substanial body of work is openly invited to take part. Entries must be a coherent series of photographs containing 20 - 30 images.
The first prize is a very alluring Hasselblad H2 camera kit.
The deadline for this competition is the 20th October 2007.

The tenth annual Bishop Auckland Town Hall and Wear Valley Writers creative writing competition is looking for competition submissions. Submissions should be a short story centring on the theme of “Deceit”. The actual story can be any suitable genre.
Prizes to new writers are available with a prize fund of £750
