Stirrings At Democracy

Category: Film, Internet, News, TechnologyRob @ 9:48 pm

I’ve mentioned the Democracy TV Channel building and video receiving system before. I remember from that experience that I liked the player and the capability of building a channel from your own content. Well Democracy has just issued its final beta release. This final release is very much focussed on the player itself, and the improvement list looks considerable.

After this release their plan seems to be to hit version 1 and change the name to Miro. I’m not sure why the name is being changed, but Miro is at least easy to remember and type.

I’m back over Democracy simply because it looks like a very useful technology. Something to make life easier for viewers and new wave creators alike. A lot this interest is focussed on how to distribute any art. WIth so much networking capability now present I’m wondering what the best tactics are for getting your work to an audience are. Democracy seems to be one of them. I’ll obviously have to ponder this further as time moves on.

In the meantime you can get Democracy here.

The Universe and the Web

Category: Articles, Fan Productions, Film, Reviews, Web SitesRob @ 10:13 pm

I was recently contacted via the Consumed blogs to upload some of my video content into motiono.com. I started to take a look at motion, it was after all new to me.

First of all the name. Motiono is described by its tag line as being “the motion of everything in the universe”. Big name - big aspirations.

Here’s my experience. Motiono is a Web 2.0 video sharing site. It’s a YouTube Clone - Really - it has a very similar look and feel. I think at this point we don’t need a repetition of an established formula. That said another distribution point isn’t a bad thing.

Errr - finding it hard to sort this one out. In other words a mixed message from your reviewer.

This is how it panned out. I wasn’t able to get a video loaded up, every time I tried Motiono crashed. That said other people obviously had so there is hope for the good looking system that motiono uses (it’s called video egg - and it really does look useful - it’s just that it has failed for me). Its just that Motiono at this point feels too much like YouTube. The comparisons are too obvious this doesn’t feel that exceptional.

Though it has got me wondering - does the rise in various user driven sites dilute the ease of which we can singularly get a message out. Or does it just mean that we have to pick, choose and work our chosen formats.

Motiono has made me think about distribution. So its not all bad.

I hope Motiono fixes its problems. Its in beta and has time to become something great.

In the meantime we all have to keep on working our favorite websites to find that magic audience for our work.

Propelling New Talent - and a Competition

Category: Competitions, NewsRob @ 10:35 pm

Propeller TV - See Sky Channel 195 - is a TV Channel dedicated to showcasing new talent. To learn more about Propeller TV take a look at http://www.propellertv.co.uk/.

It’s a great concept for a television channel and of course in these days of digital expansion a good way to bring along the talent that we’re going to need to keep us all supplied with the content we seem to desperately want in the future.

So if you want to get your work on TV rather than Online then take a look at Propeller.

In the meantime - to assist in this push for creativity Propeller TV is running a competition to create an ident for the station. The ident will be 3 - 5 seconds in length and submitted to the station no later than June 29th 2007. The winning entry will receive a cash prize of £1000.

So if you are a prospective designer or video maker who thinks they can say something about a TV station in just a few seconds give this a go.

For more information on the competition click here.
