Celtx
Celtx was an accidental discovery uncovered when doing some research for the Consumed project. It turns out to be a gem of an application that deserves some attention. Celtx is a pre-production editor and organiser, or to try and make it clearer it’s software to aid in the writing of scripts, and organising all the various resources used in a film, theatre or any related production.
It’s also a collaboration tool, Celtx has been designed to use an Internet server to share project information. If you’re working remotely from your collaborators on a movie then you can use this service to share your updates and keep everything synchronised. Smartly it also enables projects to be set to public. So if you are working on a killer script and want some peer review. Set it to public upload it to the Celtx community and get some feedback.
I’m gushing over this one, perhaps a bit too much. Though I have started to use Celtx it hasn’t been an exhaustive test. However it has scored high on one critical point. It does a job. It helps enormously in formatting and organising the material for production. Simply put it does the job in a highly focussed way. For me that makes it cool and something special.
I’m planning to use Celtx extensively over the next few months. Perhaps after that I’ll do a a retrospective piece. In the meantime why not take a look, it’s free to use and it may make your life easier. Celtx can be found at http://www.celtx.com
