European Open Source Convention

Open Source commonly refers to software. Although in all truth almost anything that can be created can be open source, but that’s a diversion. Here’s the information.
The European Open Source Convention is an annual convention debating the changes and issues faced in managing free and open projects. Each year it attracts entrepreneurs, artists, software engineers, business people, and policy makers. This is a wide spread of people, and it is important. It runs between the 18th and 21st of September 2006.
It’s important because open source is a great enabler. Most of the Internet runs on Open Source software. Shared Creation runs on open source software. Open Source produces software for media creation. Right now on another computer I’m using an open source product to adjust some video footage as part of the Consumed project.
This is why we’re covering Open Source. Open Source can provide very low cost (potentially) free aids for all manner of creative projects. It is something that all artists and media creators need to be aware of. This is why it is worth looking at the output of the European Open Source Convention.

We’ll be taking a look at open source again in the future.
