Time to Flock?
Flock 0.7 has just been released, Flock is a web browser based around Mozilla (Firefox) and it is worthy of a special mention. Flock has been designed to allow it’s users to interact with information and each other incredibly simply. That’s an original shift in the design philosophy for a web browser. This is not just about receiving or requesting information. It’s about making simpler the process of communicating. It’s also a design that actually reflects how the young and the technically literate are using the Internet today. In other words this is not the squeezing of a quart into a pint pot that is Internet Explorer. It’s putting usage first. Something all software should do.
So why is that making it worthy of special Shared Creation mention? It’s because its built in tools are designed to streamline the process of interaction. It’s about getting web sites, news, discussions, pictures and original ideas interacting. It’s got the same long term goal that Shared Creation has. It may not be an art or design program. It may not improve your writing or film-making. It may help you keep track of things that interest you and meet new people.
One word of warning though should you now be dying for a copy; Flock is still in Beta. It’s almost but not quite finished. So remember that if you use it.
