Once again it’s time to talk about the development of Shared Creation.
First of all, looking at the web statistics it’s clear that the number of people finding and reading Shared Creation is rising. Although this is not exponential it is a slow and steady increase. This is good news. The more readers we have - the more useful we are. Steady growth also means no sudden outages, that means service to our readers and that is good.
There has not been much done in the way of site development recently. This does not mean things are truly finished. Instead it means that I am observing progress. I am considering options, looking at how the content is developing and seeking a way to make sure the site reflects the information in it. What do I mean. I mean does Shared Creation need to be more than two streams of information. One for news, one for peoples own work? Do we need more options than that? Do we need to combine all of this into a single feed? Do we need to give more? These are big questions and the answer, given the investment that additional development will be, has to be right. So I am watching how the stories develop and considering how to best serve our members and readers in the future.
A slight pause.
As I watch I see one trend I like. There is a grassroots feel coming to Shared Creation. We are able to cover the start of things (like Interstellar) or small work going on the community (such as a recent stage fighting course). Deep down this was always a hope. That we wouldn’t be another site commenting about arts competitions and funding applications, and instead be one that is out there for people trying to get going. We’re not perfect on this score yet; but the trend is I believe a good one.
That’s the report. Growth continues, we’re not perfect but are heading in the right direction.
Engage Cymru are holding their conference at the new Waterfront Gallery, Caernarfon on Monday July 12th
The conference title is Art in Other Places and focuses on visual arts education projects that take place outside of the formal gallery setting. It’s an exploration of the taking down of barriers and between galleries, artists, communities and to remove preconceptions notions regarding galleries and the visual arts.
